Millingerwaard

beverspoor

Photo impression of our visit to the Millingerwaard on the river Waal. There are beavers, which we unfortunately didn’t see, but we spotted their activities.

New garden guests

A few weeks ago I spotted them in our neighbour’s garden and now they’ve discovered the bird food in our garden: long-tailed tits.

I just think they are adorable!

Moved

We have moved. We’re still very busy, but hopefully I’ll be posting more regularly soon. The picture shows not our, but our garden birds’ new house.

Bird

vogeltje

Not exactly sure what it is; there’s a few birds that look like this and I’m not an expert. But I was pleased to get a decent picture of  such a small bird. This was taken a month ago.

Traffic jam

ooievaar

A few days ago I was caught in a traffic jam on my way to the office. While I was completely stuck at the exit from the motorway, I had the chance to observe a stork hunting in a meadow. Frustrating as it can be to be stuck in traffic, I tremendously enjoyed watching the stork catching prey and then continuing his hunt.

I’ve often noticed how you can see lots of wildlife when you’re travelling on the motorway or by train. Especially birds of prey, falcons and buzzards, can be seen here often. Buzzards come from Scandinavia to the Netherlands in winter. Herons, swans, geese and increasingly also stork are pretty common too. When driving, I normally do not have the leisure to study the wildlife, but fortunately I also frequently travel as a passenger.

It’s always nice when something as boring as traffic jam is made more pleasurable by observing wildlife exhibiting natural behaviour.

Mouse

Caught by the cats and dead by the time I took it away from one of the cats.
