Some creativitywith carton and bbq skewers…

Start veg garden
8 September 2009 at 6:21 (Fruit, Vegetable garden)

This is the first bed in our new vegetable garden in Germany. Well, not really, because I can’t imagine this being a practical spot for a strawberry bed in the long run, but for the moment it is a start. Strawberry plants given to me by a friend from the allotment society where I have a plot until next week. Last weekend I cleared a small square bed, partially edged with box and put in the strawberryplants. I watered them in using a milk jug left by the former inhabitants.
And below is the state of the house, but you gotta have your priorities right: no planting, no eating. The house can wait.

First harvest from new garden

To my surprise there are some nuts on the curly stemmed hazelnut in the new garden in Germany. As you can see in the second photo we’re not the only one to enjoy them. In the third picture you can see the entire harvest so far (impressive, innit?) and in the fourth picture you see the new catkins/flowers. Seems very early to me, but I must say I have no experience with hazels.
