Brrrr…
Traffic jam
8 October 2009 at 9:11 (Miscellaneous, Wildlife)
A few days ago I was caught in a traffic jam on my way to the office. While I was completely stuck at the exit from the motorway, I had the chance to observe a stork hunting in a meadow. Frustrating as it can be to be stuck in traffic, I tremendously enjoyed watching the stork catching prey and then continuing his hunt.
I’ve often noticed how you can see lots of wildlife when you’re travelling on the motorway or by train. Especially birds of prey, falcons and buzzards, can be seen here often. Buzzards come from Scandinavia to the Netherlands in winter. Herons, swans, geese and increasingly also stork are pretty common too. When driving, I normally do not have the leisure to study the wildlife, but fortunately I also frequently travel as a passenger.
It’s always nice when something as boring as traffic jam is made more pleasurable by observing wildlife exhibiting natural behaviour.
Clearing out
26 September 2009 at 19:16 (Miscellaneous)
In our new house in Germany quite a bit of junk was left behind by the previous inhabitants. We’ve been having a container in our garden for the past weeks. This is actually the second container. This weekend we cleared out another corner of the house. Click on the photo to enlarge and read the comments.
We have hot water
23 September 2009 at 21:01 (Miscellaneous)
We normally have hot water in our temporary house – fortunately, for I like my daily shower -, but now we also have hot water at the new house in Germany. We hadn’t managed to get it working, but the gentleman who cam by for the obligatory carbomonoxide measurements has switched it on for us. There turned out te be a secret switch to connect the heating to the electricity. Super service.

This is my first message on this new site. Lay-out wil be the same, so there are no shocking changes. The reason of moving my blog is that I can now manage WordPress myself, allowing me to use plugins. I’ve installed one that provides a more elegant solution for multi-language blogging. I hope it’ll work as smoothly as expected. If you don’t know me yet, you could read just a bit more about me in the “Welcome” section at the top of the left-hand menu. If you want to read the entries of my earlier blog-life, you can find the entries here. In time I’ll move some of the more popular messages from my old blog to this new url and eventually close it down.
