Finally

Rain! And more than a few millimeters, though I’ve heard it’ll take a fortnight of steady rain to get up to the normal total amount rainfall for this time of year.

A drop of rain

It wasn’t much. In no way enough to solve the drought, but it got me a nice picture yesterday morning.

Pond

After months of preparation and shuffling around paving stones and cubic yards of sand by DH, we now have a flower garden layout. That means that the crater where we wanted to create a pond, could also actually be made into a pond. Lovely. A well deserved icecream was consumed to celebrate!

Hand salve

Today I made a salve with almond oil, extra virgin olive oil, dried calendula, bees wax and a few drops of essential oil of tangerine and lavender. I hope it turns out nice. Last time I made a salve I put in too much bees wax and the salve was a bit too hard. I’ve now put in 5 grams for 75 grams of oil. We’ll see how that works out

I’ve cleaned some old cream pots and used those for containers. I usually use vodka to cleanse the utensils and pots.

Mara’s cottage

We’ve had a lovely week in Portugal, staying at Mara’s cottage. From the roads you can see many veg gardens with olives, citrus trees and grapes. I felt right at home.

The weather was gorgeous, our hosts were hospitable (and English speaking) and could tell us about nice places to visit and the cottage had everything we needed. It was a lovely vacation.

Lovely weather

Today we had a very productive day: DH built 9 meters of high fence to replace the one that went down in a storm a month ago. I spent the day weeding, repotting a nectarine tree, planting onion sets (in trays under glass), planting out 4 strawberry plants (Mara des Bois) and doing some cleaning out in the greenhouse. Very satisfying, but we will both be sore tomorrow!.

Resolutions

The new year is hardly new anymore, but it isn’t too late to start living up to my resolution for this year to write in my weblog regularly.

Breeding bulbs

Such a blessing: a cat who helps breeding bulbs!
